Campbell County Stuns Highlands

Fort Thomas Highlands was stunned by host Campbell County 24-21 Friday evening, ending the Bluebirds' hopes of starting the season 2-0 heading into the most challenging phase of the 2016 schedule.  The Birds' trailed Kentucky Class 6A Campbell County 14-0 in the third quarter before evening the score at 14-14.  Each team registered another touchdown in the final quarter to keep the score even.  However, Campbell County successfully kicked a field goal at the end of the game to give the Camels the victory, their first over in-county rival Highlands since 1991.  The Bluebirds amassed 200 rushing yards and 138 passing yards in the contest.  Unfortunately for the 'Birds, Highlands also accumulated 105 yards in penalties.  On Thursday, the Highlands freshman team registered its first victory of the 2016 season, blanking Simon Kenton 20-0.  On Saturday, the Highlands JV squad defeated the Campbell County team 14-0 to remain perfect on the season.  Highlands plays Kentucky Class 6A power Scott County Friday, September 2 at 7:30PM.
