Highlands Wins Home Opener against Campbell County

Fort Thomas Highlands registered its first varsity victory in 2015, defeating Kentucky Class 6A Campbell County by a score of 38-15 Friday evening.  The Bluebirds established a solid running game against the visiting Camels.  Running backs Nick Kendall and Grant Murray rushed for 118 yards and 83 yards, respectively, and quarterback Austin Hergott racked up 97 yards on the ground; these 3 players accounted for 4 rushing touchdowns in the contest.  Hergott completed 8 of his 14 passing attempts for 111 yards, 1 touchdown and no interceptions.  Highlands' defense recovered 2 fumbles, intercepted a Campbell County pass and registered 6 quarterback sacks, and kicker Jared Dougherty made a 46-yard field goal, in addition to successfully converting all 5 extra point attempts.   
 
The Highlands freshman team earned its first win in 2015, defeating the Lexington Catholic freshman squad by a score of 32-6.  The Highlands JV team beat the Campbell County JV team 36-16 to remain perfect in 2015.
