ESPN recently announced it will be broadcasting the Highlands-University Christian (FL) game live on national television Saturday, August 24 at 3:30PM, as part of the 2013 ESPN High School Football Kickoff.  This game, which will air on ESPNU, features the defending Kentucky Class 4A state champion and the defending Florida Class 2A state champion.  The game will be played at Highlands' David Cecil Memorial Stadium, and is the 2013 season opener for the Bluebirds.  It marks the first time Highlands will play against an opponent not from Kentucky, Ohio or Indiana.  University Christian is located in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Highlands-University Christian game will also be a part of the 2013 Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown, the nation's largest prep football event.  This will be Highlands' first time participating in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown, which is in its 16th year of operation.

The 2013 Highlands-University Christian game will mark the second time Fort Thomas Highlands has played a football game on national television.  In 2009, the Bluebirds defeated Cincinnati Saint Xavier at David Cecil Memorial Stadium; this contest was televised on the CBS College Sports Network.
