Defending Kentucky Class 4A state champion Fort Thomas Highlands extended its current win streak to 21 games, defeating Boyle County by a score of 52-31 in the 2012 season opener.  The Bluebirds were trailing the Rebels 24-15 at the half, but made some adjustments to address Boyle County's tough rushing attack in the second half.  Quarterback Donovan McCoy rushed for 99 yards and scored four rushing touchdowns in his debut as starting quarterback for the 'Birds, and running backs Jaylen Hayes and Zach Harris each registered a rushing touchdown in the contest.  Harris finished the evening with 111 yards on the ground, and Hayes amassed 98 rushing yards against the Rebels.  Highlands' defense played a major role in the second-half comeback, recovering two Boyle County fumbles and intercepting a Boyle County pass in the game.  McCoy completed 4 of 10 passing attempts for 97 yards.

In other weekend action, the Highlands junior varsity (JV) team defeated the Lexington Bryan Station JV team by a score of 38-32 to open the 2012 JV season.  The Highlands freshman squad was defeated by the Louisville Trinity freshman team 23-6 in the first game of the freshman season.
