Fort Thomas Highlands hosted defending national champion Louisville Trinity in a preseason scrimmage played under a "real game" format, and the Shamrocks proved to be too much in the contest, defeating the Bluebirds 63-31.  Last year, both Highlands and Trinity captured their respective class championships in football (Class 4A for Highlands and Class 6A for Trinity).  Trinity returns several key starters for the 2012 season, and the Shamrocks showed why they are ranked highly in all the national preseason polls.  A bright spot for Highlands in the contest was return specialist Colin Seidl, who made multiple long returns in the scrimmage, including a return for a touchdown.  Preseason scrimmages are not counted as actual games by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA); the regular season begins for both Highlands and Trinity on Friday, August 17.  Highlands enters the 2012 regular season with a 20-game active win streak.
